One woman dead, another injured in Sydney CBD
The body of a 21-year-old woman has been found a short distance from where civilians restrained a man armed with a knife who stabbed another woman in Sydney’s CBD on Tuesday afternoon.
Police do not believe the attack is terror-related or that the suspect, 21-year-old Mert Ney, has links to any terrorist organisations.
The ABC reported that the suspect is an escapee from a mental health facility, and police have confirmed Mr Ney has a history of mental health issues.
The injured woman, 41, was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital and is understood to be in a stable condition.
The suspect was restrained by passers-by armed with chairs, a crowbar and a milk crate.
