All Ordinaries index closes at record high
Australia’s All Ordinaries index has closed at a record high of 6,862.4 points — about nine points above its previous record from 1 November 2007.
The local market has received a boost on the back of strong performances on Wall Street and a lower Australian dollar, which is hovering just below 70 US cents.
However, the All Ordinaries stopped shy of breaking its intra-day record of 6,873.2 points, which was also set on 1 November 2007.
Every sector except mining saw a jump, with the strongest performances being among technology, telcos and financials.
