Brisbane: Clem Jones Tunnel shut down as police negotiate with armed man

Queensland Police are negotiating with a man armed with knives on the roof of the M7 Clem Jones Tunnel (Clem 7) in inner Brisbane.

Both the entrance and exit of the Clem 7 tunnel were closed at Shafston Avenue in East Brisbane just before 7:30am, and surrounding roads have also been blocked.

The man has reportedly been on the tunnel roof since around 9:30am, while the standoff with police has been ongoing since around 7:00am.

It is not known what sparked the standoff.

The man has been periodically agitated, waving two knives around and swearing at police negotiators, and calm during the standoff.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area.
