US border officers joke about migrant deaths in Facebook group: report

A ProPublica report published today has revealed a secret Facebook group for current and former United States Border Patrol agents with approximately 9,500 members where they joke about migrant deaths.
The group is called “I’m 10-15” — 10-15 is Border Patrol code for “aliens in custody”.
The group page, which has been active for three years, is littered with vulgar images, comments and memes.
One such post contains a photoshopped image of United States President Donald Trump forcing Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to perform fellacio on him, while other posts threatened to harm her during her visit to a Border Patrol facility outside of El-Paso.
Another post depicts a father and his 23-month-old daughter deceased on the bank of the Rio Grande who drowned after attempting to cross the river into the US.
Part of the post’s caption read: “Have y’all ever seen floaters this clean… could this be another edited photo”.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez responded to the report on Twitter:
Vicki Gaubeca, who is the director of the Southern Border Communities Coalition, said the posts show the misogyny and racism that has long existed in the Border Patrol.
“That’s why they’re the worst at recruiting women,” she said.
“They have the lowest percentage of female agents or officers of any federal law enforcement agency.”
