Swedish musician, DJ and producer Tim Bergling, widely known by his stage name Avicii, was pronounced dead in Muscat, Oman on Friday afternoon (early Saturday morning Sydney time).

A representative said in a statement that, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.”

The cause of the artist’s death is still unknown, and the passing of artist was unexpected, the same source explained. “The family is devastated, and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time.”

Musicians and fans alike are taking to social media to honour the artist, who achieved mainstream prominence with his 2011 hit “Levels”. His music is widely popular worldwide, and he earned two Grammy nominations for his contributions to the music industry.
